CREATIVE WAYS TO HELP

Get your M.P. involved in extending Compassionate Care Benefits to the parents of seriously ill children.
The Prime Minister has commented that the House is dysfunctional, there needs to be closer collaboration between parties. This campaign to extend Compassionate Care benefits and to adopt Bill C-542 as a measure fully supported by all parties in the House, is a perfect opoprtunity for our members and Senators to work together on an initiative to which no-one can object. Send our prepared e-mail to your M.P. urging them to get involved in this campaign and to support the two-phase project to bring necessary support and encouragement to Canadian families dealing with unimaginable challenges.

Encourage your MP to enter the NATIONAL MP CHALLENGE
What is it? It’s a Challenge to get your MP working for you on this issue. It is intended to be fun and informative.
Why do it? It’s a small gesture on the part of your MP to let you know that they are listening to you. This challenge is not intended to be too time consuming for them as they have important Parliamentary business to attend to.
If you personally support changes to legislation to adopt an income protection program for parents whose child suddenly becomes seriously ill and you must be away from normal income generating activities to care for them, do the following: locate your Member of Parliament from the website of the House of Commons and email them the challenge.

THE CHALLENGE: Your MP is challenged to learn more about this issue. The best thing they could do is read my book. Go to the Home Page to order it. $1.00 from every book sold will go to the National Childhood Cancer Foundation to support scholarship programs for childhood cancer survivors. However, if they can’t find the time, they could contact me at guineakid@gmail.com to learn more and ask questions. Or, if they prefer to talk to my MP who is helping me they can email Gord Brown of Leeds and Grenville at BrownG@Parl.gc.ca
If they become familiar with the issue but don’t agree that more support needs to be offered to Families with sick children then they quit.
But if they do support the proposed changes and want to add their vote they need to bring in another MP and try to get their vote, and make them familiar with the issue.
The hope is that every MP in Parliament will have been issued the National MP Challenge by either one of their constituents, or by a fellow colleague. This awareness is what is needed to debate the issue. A Federal debate on this issue has been long awaited by many.
Once they make contact with another MP, to show that they completed the challenge, ask them if they would let you know by emailing you back. No names are necessary, and this is not mandatory for them. Ask them for their comments and what they think the likelihood of success is, and when?

Everyone can make a difference if you just take the time.
