WHO IS THE GUINEA KID?Colleen Ruth was just six years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. The latest blow to a family far too familiar with the devastation of that illness, Colleen's battle over the next years was against more than a medical killer. Her family found themselves cast adrift in a frightening world where there was no help available when they had to take time off work and spend their days and months in hospitals and clinics. It is an amazing struggle to handle the many challenges facing a family in their position. It should be enough to face the terrors and uncertainties of a seriously ill child: but to find your own government is unaware of your needs is an added burden that should not be added to families. If a doctor tells you that your child is definitely going to die, there will be help available. But if your child is "only" very seriously ill, with an unknown future and an uncertain time in treatment ahead of them, then you are on your own. Colleen and her family triumphed together in the face of these attacks on health, reason and compassion. Now they want to continue the struggle on behalf of others in the same situation: working to have laws and regulations changed to give families the financial support that will give them freedom to concentrate on the life and death battle facing their children. That is the purpose of this web site. Please read and learn and join in to convince your M.P. and the Canadian Government to reach out in compassion and basic humanity to support and protect Canadian families, maybe your's, at a time of such dreadful challenge. |
